Ten Haikus About Something Painful
1.
In the empty time
from which come no songs, no gods
not even stories
2.
The spider-ghosts move
not-dead and not-living things
hanging from the stars
3.
Pools of ink and light
Frozen yellow boxed-in flames
Eye-squares square the sky
4.
Spider-ghost returns
taking on the forms of gods
threads through spinning eyes
5.
The edges devour
the center of the painting
leaving a finger.
6.
Bone-cloud-covered skies
dogs run, eyes open, teeth bared
voices bleeding rage.
7.
Pools of ink and light
cloud-colored cloth wrapping up
that best left unseen.
8.
Dry leaf skeletons
Skitter circles over stones
then return to sleep.
9.
Orange cylinders
ovals, circles in pastel
seven years gone by.
10.
A voice’s echo
flying through the tunnel, fades
into the shadows.
